They\u2019re harvested during the winter months in rural Catalonia, and are served in a rather unique and interesting way that makes them truly delicious and hard to put down!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Catalonia <\/strong><strong>Cal\u00e7otades<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re staying in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catalunyacasas.com\/rentals\/villa-vacarisses-peaceful-perfection-only-30km-from-barcelona-407702.html\"><u>villa in Barcelona <\/u><\/a>during the winter, you may hear the locals discussing the cal\u00e7otada\u2026but what is IT? A cal\u00e7otada is a festival celebrating the cal\u00e7ot, where the onions are barbecued, steamed, and then eaten as a snack, usually dipped in a traditional Romesco sauce from Tarragona. There are also grilled meats, crusty breads, and copious amounts of local red wine.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-109613\" src=\"https:\/\/catalunyacasas.kigobook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/914\/2018\/10\/images-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"353\" height=\"143\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Finding <\/strong><strong>Cal\u00e7otadas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re keen to visit a cal\u00e7otada during your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catalunyacasas.com\/rentals\/villa-sentmenat-stunning-villa-w-private-pool-33-km-to-barcelona-407629.html\"><u>holiday in Spain<\/u><\/a>, then consider visiting the town of Valls in January, which is when the region\u2019s biggest annual cal\u00e7otada takes place. However, you\u2019re sure to find smaller cal\u00e7otadas taking place in restaurants throughout cal\u00e7ot season, which runs from December to April.<\/p>\n<p>Even if onions aren\u2019t really your thing, Valls is still a great place to visit in the winter months.
